All information below is based on industry standard guidelines and should only be used as a guide. All applicable local codes should be met and may vary at the actual installation site.
Dexter On-premise Laundries
- Dexter washers will drain floor mounted (no bases required).
- Small loads accumulate faster (keep the linen flow through the laundry).
- Use two or more machines when possible (not restricted when maintenance is needed).
- Size alike for multiple machines (ease of training, fewer parts inventory).
Exhaust duct per dryer should be no longer than 14 ft. (4.27 m) straight with two 90-degree sweep bends. Use 45-degree angles where possible. Cleanouts should be installed at regular interval lengths. Multiple exhaust ducts entering a main common duct must be at 45-degree angles or less and must never be connected directly across from each other. Make-up air must be provided for each dryer from outdoors.
Wash formulas and water consumption vary considerably by the program selected. Two gallons (7.57 l) of water per pound of machine rated capacity is attainable with Dexter washers.
Hot Water Consumption
Assume the rule of two-thirds of water consumed is hot. Incoming ambient water temperature subtracted from desired hot water temperature will give you the degree rise required for your hot water system. The hot water system tank should have enough storage for one hour’s demand.
If a trough is used, it should be about 12 in. (30.48 cm) to 14 in. (35.56 cm) deep and 12 in. (30.48 cm) to 14 in. (35.56 cm) wide. For trough length, add total washer(s) width(s) and multiply by 1.2. Always plan for maximum drain capacity, which is all washers set at the highest water level draining at once.
Must be sized large enough to take away in one minute, 0.7 gallons (2.65 l) per pound times all rated washer capacities. Drain pipe sizing 3 in. = 100 gallons per minute; 4 in. = 200 gpm; 5 in. = 350 gpm; 6 in. = 550 gpm; 7.62 cm = 378.53 liters per minute; 10.16 cm = 757.06 lpm; 12.7 cm = 1324.85 lpm; 15.24 cm = 2081.92 lpm.
Full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. For a laundry with 135 lb (60.8 kg) wash capacity or less, provide one FTE employee for each 55 lb (24.8 kg) of wash capacity. For a laundry with 135 lb (60.8 kg) wash capacity or more, provide one FTE employee for each 80 lb (36 kg) of wash capacity.
Electrical (60 Hz)
Isolated ground connected to green ground terminal at power connection at rear. Three phase connect to L3, L2, L1, N and ground. (High leg or wild leg always connected to L3). One phase connect to L1, L2, N and ground.
Control transformer tap changed to actual measured voltage. (measured 200 – 215 V on tap marked 208 V) (measured 216 – 240 V on tap marked 230 V) Extract rotation CCW as viewed from front. (CCW all 25 lbs, 40 lbs, 45 lbs, 55 lbs, 75 lbs) (CCW all 18 lb models.) If rotation is wrong, refer to installation manual.
Hot and cold water hoses installed with filter screens and connections tight. Drain line connected to the proper sized main drain.
Machine bolted with the proper sized bolts (see installation instructions). All bolt holes on washer frame used in mounting procedure. Concrete thickness and quality adequate for model being installed (see installation requirements).
Grouting required on all 200 g-force models. Grouting strongly recommended on all other models.
Level dryer by using supplied leveling legs.
- 120 V black wire is power side at rear power connection. White wire is neutral side at rear power connection. Isolated ground connected to green ground screw at rear.
- 208 – 240 V one phase or three phase. Wire sized properly to supply terminal block. Isolated ground connected to green ground screw at rear.
- Control transformer tap changed to actual measured voltage tap. (200 – 216 V on 208 V marked tap). (217 – 240 V on 240 V marked tap).
- Jumper at terminal strip. Check placement of jumper for high voltage (208 – 240 V) or low voltage (120 V). Only on models with dual voltage capabilities. Refer to installation instructions for proper location.
Gas line connection (flexible line permitted) must be sized to proper rated BTU capacity of the dryer marked on data plate.
Fresh Make-Up Air Opening Requirements
1 sq. ft. required for each 30 lb single dryer. 1.25 sq. ft. required for each 55 lb single dryer. 1.5 sq. ft. required for each stack dryer and each 80 lb single dryer. Avoid drawing make-up air from the room with the washers.
.3 static back pressure is the maximum at the rear exhaust outlet of dryer. If multiple dryers are connected to common duct, make sure the back draft damper installed properly.
Important Installation Points to Remember
Installation errors and return trips cost distributors lost profits.
- Does anything need to be removed or added for proper installation?
- Have all the utilities been installed before showing up with equipment?
- Is there a clear pathway to get the equipment in and out of the laundry?
- Is the concrete, piping, electrical voltage, venting, etc. compatible with the new equipment?
- Are contractors needed for any part of the job?
- Can the equipment be off loaded at the site?
- Is a rigger needed for the project?
- Who is doing the installation? Is it clearly defined to the customer?
- Who makes the final connections to utilities? Is it clearly defined to the customer?
- Flooring, bolting, leveling and grouting errors will compound into short and long term issues!
- Is spacing being considered for safety reasons and machine servicing access?
